Let’s Talk Botox

Let me preface this post by saying, my intention is not to try and persuade anyone into getting Botox. I am just sharing my own experiences and sharing some knowledge!

We have all heard of Botox, or at least the vast majority. For those who don’t know, Botox is a neurotoxin that is used to prevent and treat wrinkles. It is used to treat other things as well, but cosmetic reasons are the most popular. If you have ever considered getting Botox but are intimidated or don’t know where to start, I am going to try my best to help!

Okay, let’s get one of the most popular questions out of the way. Does it hurt? My simple answer to that would be no. With that being said, everyone has a different pain tolerance and different areas of the face can differ with how painful the actual injection is. For example, around the eyes or top of the lip is a bit more uncomfortable to get treated than between the eyebrows or on your forehead. Topical numbing cream is also most likely going to be an available option for you, and it will help the discomfort if you are worried about it!

One of the most important things I can stress to you, is find a reputable place to get Botox. Skimping on price is not a good idea when it comes to needles in your face. I encourage you to do your research to find the best injectors in your area and ask questions. I repeat … ASK QUESTIONS!! Your injector should be able to answer any questions you have and make you feel 100% comfortable and on board before the actual injections begin.

One rule of thumb to keep in mind for your first appointment, is that you should expect to start more on the conservative side when it comes to amount of units. If you are in the hands of a master injector they should recommend that to you anyway, because why get more units than you need? If you still have movement or aren’t getting your desired results, you can always increase your dose at your next appointment!

Q: What is Botox?

A: Botox is a neurotoxin. It is used to block the signals from the nerves to the muscles, telling the muscles to contract. This results in the treatment and prevention of wrinkles and fine lines. Botox gives an overall smoother look to the skin and makes you look more refreshed and awake.

Q: How long does a normal Botox treatment take?

A: Botox treatments typically take about 10 minutes. Thats it!

Q: How long does it last?

A: Botox generally lasts between 3-4 months.

Q: How much is it?

A: On average, the cost of Botox per unit is anywhere from $10 to $15. The amount of units injected is personalized from patient to patient and depends on your desired result + strength of the muscles that are being treated. To give you a general idea of how many units you may need, I edited a little diagram to referance!

Q: Is there any down time?

A: Nope! After you get injected the only things you will want to avoid are heavy exercise and laying down flat for about 4-6 hours.

Q: Do you look weird right after the treatment?

A: Bruising is always a possibility of course, but most of the time you can’t even tell you had anything done aside from a little redness from the injections.

*Tip: To decrease your chances of bruising, it is recommended that you avoid alcohol for 24-48 hours before your appointment. The same goes for blood thinners such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, fish oil, etc. Blood thinners and alcohol can increase your chances of bruising so try to avoid them if you can.*

Q: How long does it take to see results?

A: You should start seeing results 5-7 days after your treatment, but you will see your finished results after a full 2 weeks.

My personal experience with Botox has been amazing! I am 23 & have been getting Botox for about a year now. I get it mainly for preventative reasons but I have found that Botox also really helps with my tension headaches, which is a huge added bonus. My main goal was to make sure to get a head start on prevention before I got prominent irreversible wrinkles. The areas I get treated are my crows feet, my 11’s which is the area between my brows, the top of my lip for a “lip flip”, and I also get a little brow lift. I work for such an amazing med spa in Lexington, KY and I am blessed to be able to get treated by the the most talented injectors. If you’re in the Lexington area I highly recommend Prive’ Med Spa, you will be in the best of hands!

If you have been considering Botox, I don’t want to tell you if you should or shouldn’t get it. What I can do is tell you that I recommend finding the best injector/injectors in your area and schedule a consultation. You can meet with them and ask any questions you have. Don’t be shy and don’t be afraid to ask even the smallest of questions. You want to leave your consult feeling informed and full of information so you can make the best decision for yourself.

I really hope this post was informative and helpful because I know Botox can seem so overwhelming at first, but once you get more information on the treatment it isn’t so scary. On the other hand if you don’t feel like Botox is for you or you just simply don’t want it, that is okay too! It is a personal choice and you should only get Botox if you are making the decision with full certainty.

My Essentials For The Perfect “At Home” Spa Day

Lets face it, we all need a good rest and relaxation moment every now and then and going out to indulge in your local day spas may not always be an option for you. I am one of those people that takes “self care” pretty seriously but I don’t have hundreds of dollars to spend for weekly professional treatments. Meaning, I have gotten pretty good at creating the ultimate spa day at home and I’m here to share my personal essentials with you guys!

Face Masks:

Duhhhh. What is a spa day without a good face mask? I am a little obsessed with them and I love all different kinds. Sheet masks, clay masks, gel masks, peel off masks, and my new favorite, hydrojelly masks! Different types of masks for different types of moods, ya know?

When you are choosing your face masks, you want to make sure you get the best type of mask for your skin! Find options that target any problem areas your skin has. “At home” masks can actually be pretty beneficial if you choose quality products that are right for you. Here are a few of my faves!

Nola Skinsentials “Pumpkin Enzyme Mask”

ZO Skin Health “Complexion Clearing Masque”

The Ordinary “AHA/BHA Peeling Solution”

GlamGlow “Supermud Mask”

Esthemax “Egyptian Rose” & “Illuminating Orange” Hydrojelly Masks

*p.s Esthemax is a “for licensed professionals only” site BUT I linked a retailer that carries a “diy” mask kit that anyone can purchase! I also recommend checking your local med spas and see if they carry them! I know Prive’ Med Spa in Lexington, KY carries some jelly masks. *

Foot Spa:

Yes honey, you totally need a foot spa in your life. Funny story, I bought a cheap foot spa to give as a “Dirty Santa” gift one year and the moment I bought it, I wanted it. I was working as a makeup artist at MAC and was on my feet all the time, so this looked heavenly to me. Me being me, I won it back in the game and lived happily ever after, haha! It is perfect for a little “pedispa” and I highly recommend you try one. I like to add a little “Teals” epsom salt to my foot bath and it is fantastic for sore/tired feet.

Here is the foot spa that I bought.

Facial Tools:

Facial tools are a really cool addition to your spa routine! I love using a Jade Roller that is chilled. I use it to stimulate the collagen and blood cells in my face and it is so relaxing and super calming. Another tool I love using is a little contoured stone called a “Gua Sha” to relieve tension in my facial muscles.

Both have quickly become spa essentials of mine. Here is a set with both the Jade Roller and the “Gua Sha”!

I am also OBSESSED with cupping my face. I know it sounds weird but I swear it’s a thing! There are tons of benefits from cupping, and I think it feels so so relaxing when incorporated into your skin care routine. I didn’t link a specific set because there are so many different options out there, but I got mine from Amazon so I recommend looking there! Last but not least, you have to have a good chilled eye mask!! I have a rose quartz one and I am obsessed with that thing. It feels so luxurious, and we all need a little extra luxury in this life, right? Here is a mask that I found, similar to mine!

Hair Treatments:

We gotta show our locks some love too! I am obsessed with keratin treatments like this one from Paul Mitchell! Keratin helps to improve your hair strength and texture. It also helps to smooth out frizzy, unruly hair. Another treatment fave of mine is the No.3 Hair Perfector from Olaplex! You can find it here! I totally recommend getting an inexpensive little portable hair dryer as well. The one that sits up and covers your entire head, you know the one!

Just keep in mind that although adding heat to some hair treatments can be super beneficial, you want to make sure you are aware of how hot your dryer is, and make sure you don’t over use it. Here is the one I have, but there are tons of other more inexpensive options available!

All of these things are so fun and a great way to treat yourself in the comforts of your own home! You deserve to treat yourself & show yourself some extra love. We all have to prioritize taking care of “me”.

On that note, go enjoy! xoxo

My Starbucks Order

Okay, I know this is a random post but I am an iced coffee snob and after an obscene amount of failed Starbucks orders and countless dollars spent on iced coffee combos that are just not THE drink, I finally have the perfect iced coffee. Just a heads up, this order is personalized for a low carb lifestyle so if you are a sugar junkie I make no promises! Although, even when I wasn’t eating low carb this was still my go-to drink because it is just that dang good!

My Order

Grande Iced Coffee

With Heavy Cream

*I ask for an an extra splash of heavy cream because at first, my order always tasted different depending on who made it, and ever since I have started asking for an extra splash it is always perfect & delicious!*

Sugar Free Vanilla Syrup

No Classic Syrup

In a Venti Cup With Extra Ice

*This step is super important if you are an ice freak like me. I don’t know why having extra ice makes it taste better, but it does and if you don’t like ice … I have questions, lol.*

Mmkay, so now that you have the breakdown of the yummiest iced coffee in the world, you have no other choice but to go to Starbucks right now and get one. You can thank me later! xoxo

Fall Candle Picks 2020

Guess what… Bath & Body works fall candle season is FINALLY here! Honestly it has been here for a minute but I still can’t contain my excitement y’all!! I am obsessed, and I mean OBSESSED with fall candles and scents from Bath & Body Works. Every fall season I try to stock up on all the best scents so I can indulge in them all year long!

So what are my 2020 fall candle picks? I have my yearly reoccurring favorites such as Marshmallow Fireside and Pumpkin Pecan Waffles and then of course there are other scents I fall in love with that are new to the fall line up. This year one of my favorite new scents is Pumpkin Bonfire. I am not going to attempt to describe the smell because I am so incredibly bad at that, but it is yummy. To be honest, any of the scents that have the word “Pumpkin” in them are pretty much a sure thing for me. My boyfriend actually teased me so much when I stocked up this year, because almost every single candle in my cart had “Pumpkin” somewhere in the name, but I regret nothing, haha. Anyway, now that you have a little insight into my fall candle obsession, let me share the goodies I got this year!

Sweater Weather

Vanilla Pumpkin Marshmallow

Pumpkin Pecan Waffles

Caramel Pumpkin Swirl

Marshmallow Fireside

Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin

Pumpkin Vanilla Creme

Pumpkin Bonfire

My list of picks is short-ish, but I picked the ones I knew I would like and got multiples of each! I also ordered them all online because … well you know, Coronavirus. So, I might have missed out on some of the ones that sold out early, but thats okay! Hope this helps if you are planning on ordering some fall candles and I may or may not be talking myself into getting more as I am writing this post so I should wrap this up, lol. xoxo

P.S. I added links to all the candles so you can shop my 2020 fall picks! The only one that is currently unavailable is “Pumpkin Bonfire” but I still linked the Bath & Body Works site so you can browse all their other fall candle options!

All About My Eyelash Extensions!

Hi y’all! This is going to be a long one but let me tell you, it is important information, mmkay? Lets talk about my one of my TOP beauty essentials … eyelash extensions!! I have been getting eyelash extensions for about a year now and I am ADDICTED! For me personally I wish I would have started getting them a long time ago, so let me break down the main reasons why I am so freakin’ obsessed! For starters, I have super small eyes and I was always really self conscious when I didn’t have falsies on, which was a lot of the time because who wants to put those dang things on every.single.day…. NO ONE! Honestly, that alone was a good reason for me to start getting extensions but another bonus of having lash extensions is that I love love love how fast it is for me to get glammed up now. I don’t know what the heck took me so long before, I guess putting on my falsies, but now that I have extensions my routine is cut in half and I am not exaggerating. I love focusing mainly on skin in my routine anyways so not having to put much effort into my eye makeup is too amazing and I think I might be permanently hooked! Plus, who doesn’t want to wake up looking like a million bucks? I wouldn’t say I wake up looking like a million, but definitely better than before, lol.

Okay, so now that we have talked about why lash extensions are awesome, lets get down to the important stuff. Choosing an experienced lash artist that knows what they are doing is so so so important and I cannot stress that enough. You have someone working around your eyeball and attaching extensions to your very delicate lashes so please do your research before choosing a lash artist. You want to look for someone that is licensed and certified in doing lashes and someone that focuses on your lash health as their number one priority. When choosing a lash artist, as much as we all want to save money, you do get what you pay for. If lash extensions don’t fit into your budget, I understand that 100%, but please don’t choose someone cheap and unexperienced. It is worth going with someone you trust that may be a bit more expensive, because in the long run you will appreciate your decision!

Now you have found a lash artist, what’s next? You get to choose what style lash extensions you are wanting! Experienced lash artists normally offer three different style of extensions. Those being classic, hybrid and volume. Classic is going to be your most natural option, where one individual lash extension is attached to your natural lash. Volume is a fan or cluster of multiple lash extensions that is attached to your natural lash and hybrid is a mix of both! Your lash artist may take a look at your lashes and recommend the style that is best for you, but if you are a candidate for all three options, it just depends on the style you are wanting to rock day to day.

Last thing I want to discuss is lash maintenance. Lash extensions aren’t cheap and you are going to want them to stay full and fluffy as long as possible. Most people go every couple of weeks to get their lashes filled in but everyone is a little different. Regardless, lash retention is super important and you are going to want to take care of those babies. One important step in maintaining lash extensions are lash baths or cleansing your lashes! For me personally, I use a foaming micellar water from Garnier and a clean eyeshadow brush to clean mine, and I do that about every other day. Your lash artist should recommend what products will work best with the type of extensions and glue used on your set and if not, ASK! Another important step in lash maintenance is combing your lashes. All you need is a clean, disposable mascara wand. Comb through them morning and evening because you don’t want your lash extensions getting twisted and pulling on your natural lashes. Another tip that I think is super important, and I know this from experience, is sleeping on your back! I am a side sleeper to the core and I never thought I could sleep any other way… but your lash extensions will thank you for sleeping on your back oppose to side. My retention has improved drastically since I made the switch. I also recommend getting a sleeping mask designed for lash extensions because it helps to further protect your lashes while you sleep!

Okay, shewww that was a lot! If you are still reading, you’re a champ. I know it seems like a lot but I wanted you to have all the information you needed if you decided lash extensions were something you wanted to try. Once again, please do your research and find a lash artist that is experienced and trustworthy. Let me also mention, every lash extension artist uses different brands and glue so some of my recommendations may not work with your lashes. Make sure you ask any questions you have before leaving your appointment.

If you live in the Lexington, KY area and are interested in getting lash extensions I highly recommend Ashley at Elan Beauty! Her Instagram name is @lash.and.blush and she offers classic, hybrid and volume lash sets, as well as bottom lash extensions. If you are not in the Lexington area, start by asking around for recommendations from friends and family and use social media to find lash artists in the area.

I hope this post was helpful and answered a bunch of questions you might have had about lash extensions. Take your time finding someone you trust and ask your lash artist about any concerns you have, that’s what they are there for, I promise they appreciate you asking as much as you appreciate them answering. Wow, okay … now that I have completed a full on novel, I will wrap this up and let you go on with your life! xoxo
